About Us
ISPCA Waterford
Waterford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in 1870.
It’s aim was to promote animal welfare in Waterford city and county and after nearly a century and a half, this still remains our purpose.
On January 1st, 2023 it merged with ISPCA to become ISPCA Waterford, charity number 20008734.
Our registration number under the Animal Health and Welfare (Sale or Supply of Pet Regulations) 2019 is WPT200001C.
More About What We Do
We strongly encourage the neutering of pets as a lot of welfare problems amongst companion animals have their root in the breeding of unwanted animals. We run a neutering scheme whereby we contribute to the cost of neutering of pets for people who cannot afford the total price.
We find homes for animals taken into our care, mainly due to cruelty, neglect, and irresponsible breeding.
We aim to educate the public, particularly young people, about animal care and welfare. Visits to schools, clubs, and various community groups are arranged on request.
ISPCA Waterford is funded by grant funding, donations, and the proceeds of fundraising events held throughout the year such as street collections, auctions, supermarket bag packs, jumble sales, etc.
We received €54,000 Ex-Gratia Funding from the Department of Agriculture Food and Marine in December 2023 to help continue our efforts to help animals in distress/abused/neglected, for which we are very grateful.
Donations by standing order are always welcome as knowing what income we can expect helps us plan for the future.
The society’s office is at Summerland Square and is open Mon to Fri 9.30 am to 4pm.
